However, the development of such a closing keratin plug is not always successful. Research\u003csup\u003e1\u003c\/sup\u003e has shown that about 50% of teats have not formed a natural, dense keratin plug one week after drying off and that 6 weeks after drying off an average of 23% of teats are still ‘open’ and therefore susceptible to bacterial invasion. In addition, the teats may be congested again in the week before calving, with the teat end slightly open again. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"\u003eBy applying Maxi Dry Cow Teat Seal, a layer is applied over the teat end, forming an outer physical barrier against bacteria and thus an (additional) protective layer. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e \u003ch3\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"\u003eApplication\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/h3\u003e \u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"\u003eAt the beginning of the dry period.
